On April 4th, the Indian Ministry of Petroleum announced that Indian refining companies have purchased Iranian crude oil in the context of supply disruptions in the Middle East, marking the first purchase of Iranian oil since May 2019. The United States temporarily lifted sanctions on Iranian oil and refined oil products last month to alleviate supply shortages. India has also purchased 44000 tons of Iranian liquefied petroleum gas, which was transported by sanctioned vessels and is currently unloading fuel at the western port of Mangalore.
