[Lawmakers Reach Agreement on Stablecoin Yield Terms, Delaying the 'Clarity Act' for Months]
Golden Finance reported on May 3 that Coinbase stated on Friday that lawmakers have reached an agreement on stablecoin yield terms, which had delayed the 'Clarity Act' for months. This could clear the way for the Senate Banking Committee's long-stalled deliberations.
Senators Thom Tillis (Republican, North Carolina) and Angela Alsobrooks (Democrat, Maryland) finalized the long-awaited compromise text on stablecoin yields on Friday. Section 404 of the bill prohibits cryptocurrency companies from paying any interest or returns that are "economically or functionally equivalent" to bank deposits, while preserving activity-based rewards related to "genuine" platform usage.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong urged the Senate Banking Committee to "review it."
