Wu Blockchain has learned that the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) has issued its latest anti-money laundering guidelines. These guidelines require local Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) to adopt data-driven risk models to strengthen anti-money laundering (AML) and financial crime risk controls. They must also integrate information from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on high-risk and blacklisted countries. Crypto companies are required to update their risk assessments at least once every three months.
The guidelines further mandate that businesses incorporate risks related to AI operations, anonymity-enhanced transactions, proliferation financing, and targeted financial sanctions into their compliance frameworks.
