GameStop, the beleaguered video game retailer and memestock darling from the pandemic era, is considering investing in cryptocurrencies, according to CNBC.

"GameStop is exploring investments in alternative asset classes, including crypto and in particular bitcoin," three sources told the business news outlet.

Keith Gill, better known to most as "Roaring Kitty," and the subreddit WallStreetBets were at the center of the 2021 meme stock frenzy when stocks like GameStop and AMC, as well as cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin, witnessed massive amounts of trading volume.

Some traders had been speculating if GameStop would get involved with Bitcoin after its CEO Ryan Cohen posted a photo on X with Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor last weekend.

"The retailer could decide not to follow through with the investments," CNBC reported. "The company is still in the process of figuring out if this made sense for GameStop’s business, according to one source."
