The U.S. Senate confirmed Paul Atkins as the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on March 3 with a vote of 51 to 45, with lawmakers largely voting along party lines.
His appointment comes months after Trump appointed Atkins to lead the commission at the end of last year.
Atkins served as an SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008.
He will succeed Mark Uyeda, who has been serving as the acting chairman of the SEC since January 20.
“We welcome Paul Atkins as the next chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. As a senior member of our commission, we look forward to him working with us and our dedicated staff to fulfill our mission to the investing public,” Uyeda and commissioners Hester Peirce and Caroline Crenshaw wrote in a statement on April 9.
