Bitcoin (BTC) evangelist Charlie Kirk shot: The crypto world has lost more than just a voice.

On September 10, at the podium of Utah Valley University, 31-year-old Charlie Kirk was answering students' questions about the issue of mass shootings in America. Minutes later, he himself became a victim of this issue. Gunshots rang out, and the founder of the American conservative organization "Turning Point USA" fell to the ground. After the incident, U.S. President Trump posted on Truth Social: "We all must pray for Charlie Kirk, who was shot. He has been a good person from start to finish. God bless him!"

Shortly after, Trump updated the message: "The great, even legendary Charlie Kirk has passed away. No one understands the hearts of American youth better than Charlie."

Charlie Kirk is not the most common face in the crypto space—he is not a developer, not an exchange founder, nor a crypto fund manager. But he possesses a skill that many lack: the ability to translate complex Bitcoin concepts into language that young people can understand.

In 2012, at just 18 years old, Charlie Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA (TPUSA) with Bill Montgomery, an organization focused on promoting conservative ideas on campus. After more than a decade of development, TPUSA has established branches in over 3,000 high schools and universities across the United States, with more than 650,000 lifetime student members.

Charlie Kirk's signature event is the "Prove Me Wrong" campus debate, inviting students with differing opinions to challenge his views face-to-face. These debates originally focused on traditional political issues such as free speech, gun rights, and immigration policy. However, as the 2024 election cycle approached, a new theme frequently emerged in Charlie Kirk's discourse: Bitcoin. What sets Charlie Kirk apart is that he does not promote Bitcoin as an investment or technology but integrates it into his existing political narrative.

"Cryptocurrency and Christians are two threats to the New World Order," Charlie Kirk stated in his broadcast. In his context, "New World Order" represents the globalist control he opposes, and being a "threat" means defending freedom. "You can have a currency that is not controlled by the federal government, which is direct competition to the U.S. Treasury, and it should be." This way of expressing it allows his audience to immediately understand that this is not a discussion about blockchain technology but a struggle between personal freedom and government control.

In campus debates, when students ask about inflation and the cost of living, Charlie Kirk naturally introduces Bitcoin: "Your generation is facing the worst currency devaluation in history. The 21 million Bitcoin cap means no one can print money at will to dilute your wealth."

He uses the economic pressures that students feel—student loans, housing prices, inflation—as entry points, making Bitcoin part of the solution. During the 2024 election cycle, Charlie Kirk took this narrative to new heights.

Charlie Kirk's crypto discourse is built on three key points, which have won him a large following among young people.

First is "Bitcoin is more honest than the dollar." Charlie Kirk has explained: "In some ways, Bitcoin is more honest than the dollar." He elaborated: "From being able to know how many Bitcoins exist, to the ledger, to blockchain technology." This point cleverly avoids technical details and appeals directly to moral judgment.

Second is "If you don't understand, wait to be ruled by those who do." During the 2024 election cycle, Charlie Kirk positioned cryptocurrency as an economic weapon for the younger generation. He often describes digital assets as a generational hedge against inflation and regulation.

Third is "Bitcoin can save national debt." This is Charlie Kirk's most radical and controversial viewpoint, which appeared in July 2025. According to a video interview posted by The Bitcoin Conference on X, Charlie Kirk stated that Bitcoin could pay off national debt and cover deficit losses.

Although this viewpoint is highly controversial in economics, it successfully elevated Bitcoin from a personal investment tool to a national strategic asset.

Charlie Kirk's close relationship with the Trump family is no secret. According to The New York Times, Charlie Kirk has a close relationship with Donald Trump Jr., which gives him a direct channel to influence policy. This influence has produced tangible results on the cryptocurrency issue. On July 27, 2024, Trump delivered a historic speech at the Bitcoin conference in Nashville. Charlie Kirk shared this moment on his X account: "President Trump said at the 2024 Bitcoin Conference that America will become the cryptocurrency capital of the world and a Bitcoin superpower."

More importantly, Charlie Kirk helped mainstream the concept of a "national Bitcoin strategic reserve." In March 2025, when Trump officially announced this plan, Charlie Kirk wrote on his website: "After years of corrupt attacks from the Biden administration, America's crypto reserve will elevate this critical industry." By incorporating Bitcoin into a broader conservative agenda, Charlie Kirk not only expanded the audience for cryptocurrency but also changed the political discourse surrounding it. This is a double-edged sword; while it brought mainstream attention and political support, it also dragged cryptocurrency into America's increasingly polarized political environment.

After the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the response quickly spread across various fields. In the crypto world, a meme coin themed around mourning Trump political ally Charlie Kirk, called CHARLIE, quickly emerged on the Solana chain, with a market cap exceeding $10 million in a short time, and a trading volume of $68.4 million within six hours of launch. These Solana-based meme coins draw from the "Justice For Charlie" or "RIP Charlie Kirk" themes. The political response crossed party lines. California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom also issued a condemnation statement immediately: "The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, despicable, and should be condemned. In America, we must reject all forms of political violence."

Elon Musk also commented on the incident, writing: "This shooting looks terrible, but I really hope Charlie Kirk pulls through." He also retweeted a user's comment: "The left-wing mainstream media, and figures like Gavin Newsom who claim Trump plans to become a dictator, have created a hysterical atmosphere against right-wing individuals, which could incite any emotionally unstable person to engage in political violence."

Charlie Kirk's death leaves an irreplaceable void. His position is extremely unique; he is neither a technical expert nor a financial tycoon, but a political activist with a large youth network who genuinely believes in Bitcoin.

In 2016, he was the youngest speaker at the Republican National Convention, and in 2020, he was also a keynote speaker; his podcast frequently ranks in the top ten of Apple News charts. This combination of mainstream political status, genuine belief in Bitcoin, and broad influence is nearly unmatched in the American political spectrum. Looking back at Charlie Kirk's success, it at least proves one point: getting the mainstream audience to accept Bitcoin requires not more technical white papers, but better storytellers.

In discussing the impact of the shooting, being shot may also remind everyone of a fact: in today's highly polarized environment in America, being a public advocate comes with real risks. When technical issues are drawn into fierce ideological struggles, advocates may become targets.

Bitcoin prices continue to fluctuate, and regulation remains a battleground, but a genius evangelist who could translate complex technology into political narratives has been silenced forever. The market cap of the CHARLIE meme coin commemorating Kirk on the Solana chain has surpassed $10 million, but numbers cannot measure the true loss.

After Charlie Kirk's death, the campus organization he founded, Turning Point USA, will continue to operate, but no one will be able to instill the idea of "Bitcoin as a currency of freedom" in the hearts of the younger generation in the same way he did. A crypto enthusiast wrote on Disc: "Kirk was one of the few mainstream voices that truly understood Bitcoin. This is a huge loss for crypto evangelism."
