Policy and Regulation:
Japan's newly elected Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, may introduce more "refined" regulatory policies to promote the development of the cryptocurrency economy, positioning Japan as a global hub for cryptocurrency companies. She was elected as the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party on Saturday and will become Japan's first female Prime Minister after taking office on October 15.
Experts suggest that under her leadership, Japan may be more open to experimental technologies like blockchain while maintaining strict regulations. The General Counsel of Brickken stated that her election could significantly impact the recognition and management of digital assets, as she supports "technological sovereignty." The government may actively promote the development of the digital economy, strengthening Japan's commitment to legal certainty in the cryptocurrency sector, drawing external attention. Additionally, Takaichi's government may clarify the classification of tokens by the Financial Services Agency, which currently categorizes tokens into payment tokens, securities, and utility tokens, each with different regulatory requirements.
Project Updates:
Morgan Stanley has informed its financial advisors that the company is expanding cryptocurrency investment channels to all clients and allowing such investments in any type of account, including retirement accounts. Starting October 15, financial advisors will be able to recommend cryptocurrency funds to any client. Previously, this option was limited to clients with a higher risk tolerance, assets of at least $1.5 million, and a desire to invest in cryptocurrencies within taxable brokerage accounts.
Insiders revealed that as Morgan Stanley removes the qualification requirements for cryptocurrency funds, the company will rely on automated monitoring processes to ensure clients do not overly concentrate their investments in this volatile asset class. The bank's Global Investment Committee recently released a model suggesting that the initial allocation for cryptocurrencies should be capped at 4% based on different goals, ranging from "wealth preservation" to "opportunistic growth." Insiders noted that currently, financial advisors are still limited to recommending Bitcoin funds from BlackRock and Fidelity, but Morgan Stanley is monitoring industry developments and considering adding other cryptocurrencies to these products. They added that clients can also request to invest in any listed cryptocurrency exchange-traded products.
