“1 million NFTs, 1200 testnet transaction records, over 100 leading transactions, active for 8 months, over 50 mainnet interaction records, mainnet balance of 0.05 ETH, mainnet interaction amount exceeding $50,000, wallet age over 4 years, yet still not qualified for the Monad token airdrop.”
Last night, the Monad airdrop query finally went live, and the "haircut gang" could finally breathe a sigh of relief, as almost all early participants in the testnet interactions were "reverse sheared."
Who received the Monad airdrop?
According to official information, the Monad airdrop distributed tokens to 5,500 Monad community members and nearly 225,000 cryptocurrency community members. Among them, the specific airdrop distribution method for the 225,000 "broader crypto community users" is as follows:
- DEX trading users: Users trading on the Hyperliquid platform and Phantom wallet (spot and perpetual contracts), corresponding to EVM/Solana chains;
- Meme trading users: Users participating in meme coin trading on platforms like Pump.fun and Virtuals, corresponding to EVM/Solana chains;
- DeFi deposit users: Users who deposited large amounts of funds into mainstream decentralized finance protocols such as Aave, Euler, Morpho, Pendle, Lighter, Curve, PancakeSwap, and Uniswap;
- DAO governance users: Participants recently active in the governance of major DeFi protocols on Ethereum;
- Long-term NFT holders: Including well-known NFT users holding Azuki, Chimpers, CryptoPunks, Doodles, Fluffle, Hypurr, Mad Lads, Meebits, Milady Maker, Moonbirds, Pudgy Penguins, Redacted Remilio Babies, Sappy Seals, Solana Monkey Business, and Wassies, corresponding to EVM/Solana chains;
- Holders of Monad Cards: This group mainly consists of KOLs on the X platform and Web3 media;
- Mainstream platform users: Participants of the Legion fundraising platform, Backpack users, Fantasy Top hero players;
- Active users from partner communities: MetaDAO token holders, ARC community members, active participants in the LobsterDAO Telegram group, and well-known Farcaster users;
- Security experts and researchers: Monad specifically included well-known cryptocurrency detective ZachXBT, members of the SEAL 911 organization, auditors from Cantina who have made significant audit findings, and Protocol Guild members identified through the review of Splits contracts.
In addition, the addresses that received the airdrop are divided into 6 levels, with the specific number of tokens yet to be announced:
- Community Last???
- You're cooked
- Permanent underclass
- Mid, but we like you
- Top 99%
- Participation Award

The details of the Monad airdrop distribution have left the community feeling completely unsatisfied. On one hand, the airdrop only distributed tokens to 5,500 community members, which is clearly too few. According to community feedback, almost all early users who actively participated in testnet interactions were left out, while the official did not disclose specific selection criteria, raising concerns about transparency. On the other hand, a large portion of the airdrop went to "broadly active users on the chain" who have little connection to the Monad project, leaving true early supporters of ecosystem development feeling disappointed.

The "reverse sheared" testnet users may have to "shear the exchanges" instead
Criticism aside, the opportunity to "shear" cannot be missed. Although early users faced severe "reverse shearing," Monad is still one of the popular projects, and major exchanges are likely to list it during its TGE, potentially launching various token airdrop activities. The specific strategies for token airdrops are as follows:
"Accumulate" Binance Alpha points or hold BNB tokens
Last month, most popular projects allocated a certain number of token airdrops to Binance Alpha, with many projects offering shares to Binance Alpha users that far exceeded those for early participants. Therefore, even though there have been many "low-value" airdrop projects on Binance Alpha since October, it is still worthwhile to continue accumulating points before the Monad TGE; Monad could be the "next big shear" for Binance Alpha. Additionally, popular projects like Monad may have the opportunity to go live on Binance spot, so users holding BNB tokens will also have a chance to receive MON token airdrops.
Keep an eye on token airdrop activities from major exchanges
Generally speaking, for hot projects like Monad, most mainstream centralized exchanges will launch both contract and spot trading, and to attract user trading, there will be various token reward plans, such as depositing USDT to "earn" tokens, trading to earn tokens, inviting new users to earn tokens, etc., which are worth noting.
Moreover, the next project for OKX Boost may also be Monad, and users need to weigh their wallet balance and trading volume to determine if they need to "top up" to qualify for the airdrop.
So, for those who have been "reverse sheared" in the Monad testnet, should the "shear gang" still interact with Monad ecosystem projects, or should they "change their approach" and focus on participating in Binance Alpha or OKX Boost to seek token airdrops?
