Brazilian SEC: Asset Tokenization Market to Surpass $740 Million in Brazil

The CVM, Brazil’s equivalent to the U.S. SEC, has stated that asset tokenization, a process where some assets are represented through tokens on a blockchain, will surpass the $740 million mark this year.

Bruno Gomes, superintendent of securitization at the CVM, stated that this milestone would be reached thanks to the crowdfunding rule, which allows issuers to emit up to $2.78 million in tokens with a maximum duration of 180 days.

Talking about the effect of these crowdfunding rules, Gomes stated:

Crowdfunding is almost a sandbox running in our market. Dispensing bookkeeper and depositary, so that the platform itself can do the control.

Gomes stated that, just during the first half of 2025, over half of this number was already issued, supporting his $740 million prediction.

Joao Pedro Nascimento, head of the institution, praised the crowdfunding model, stressing that while it was a local solution, it was already being studied to be implemented in other markets, including the U.S.

“The U.S. has created a crypto task force in the SEC to bring crypto economics to the regulated market. One of the ways studied is crowdfunding,” he assessed.

The surge of a strong tokenization economy in Brazil, one of the largest economies in Latam, indicates that the model is a successful one, enabling small companies to bypass the rules of the current traditional capital markets.

Credit is also another industry that tokenization processes can transform with this push, lowering the barriers for both issuers and credit takers and democratizing an industry that large institutions have dominated.

While the asset tokenization industry has already developed in Brazil, a recent public consultation that proposes a series of measures to loosen the rules governing these operations can help the market surpass today’s figures.

The increase in fundraising caps, which would reach $4.6 million, and the removal of revenue limits proposed as part of the new rules would be key to this growth.

Bernardo Srur, president of the Brazilian Association of Crypto Economics (AB crypto), predicts that with these changes, the market can even surpass the $1.8 billion goal.
