CME Group announced the planned additions Thursday morning, stating that market participants will be able to trade both standard and micro-sized contracts for each asset. The company explained that the new products are designed to give traders additional tools to manage price exposure within a regulated marketplace.
Under the proposal, cardano ( ADA) futures will represent 100,000 ADA per contract, with micro contracts sized at 10,000 ADA. Chainlink (LINK) futures will be listed in 5,000 LINK contracts alongside micro contracts of 250 LINK. Stellar ( XLM) futures will cover 250,000 lumens ( XLM), with micro contracts set at 12,500 XLM.
Giovanni Vicioso, CME Group’s global head of cryptocurrency products, stated that client demand for regulated instruments has grown as participation in crypto markets has broadened. He remarked that the mix of micro and larger contracts is intended to provide flexibility and capital efficiency for a range of trading strategies.
The CME executive stated:
“With these new micro- and larger-size cardano, chainlink and stellar futures contracts, market participants will now have greater choice with enhanced flexibility and more capital-efficiencies.”
Industry participants also commented on the announcement in CME’s release. Bob Fitzsimmons of Wedbush Securities pointed to the continued development of regulated crypto futures, while Martin Franchi, chief executive of Ninjatrader, described the expansion as an important step for futures traders seeking digital asset exposure.
