I'm sorry, I should have explained my recommendations for fasting more clearly.
First of all, I am me; everyone is different. I do not recommend that everyone fast as extremely as I do. It is important to first consult a doctor and preferably develop a scientific fasting plan, but there is indeed scientific and medical evidence that light fasting is beneficial to the human body.
Then let me share some personal situations.
Thank you to my friends for their concern about my sleep. Five hours of sleep is indeed a bit short, that's a fact, but I mainly wake up naturally. Unless I have something to do, I won't set an alarm. As soon as I wake up, I get out of bed; I usually wake up naturally after about five hours of sleep each day.
Of course, if I continue to sleep, I can fall back asleep, but I generally choose to get up. Actually, there's another point—I have developed a certain sleeping pattern; I will definitely wake up between 11 AM and 12 PM every day, regardless of what time I go to bed. This is why on average, I sleep around five hours.
Occasionally on weekends, I might snooze in bed and sleep until two or three o'clock. Very rarely. I personally feel like I am in a state of sleep deprivation, but I don't know if that's just an illusion. Since I started fasting, my mental state has been very good; I hardly ever feel sleepy until I naturally wake up before going to bed, without feeling sleepy.
I have very bad sleeping habits, and I strongly advise everyone not to emulate this. I usually go to bed after 6 AM, which is very bad. This is also why I only have one dinner because my main activities are at night; I sleep in the morning and I'm not hungry right after waking up. I typically have dinner around 6 PM and keep fasting until the next evening meal.
I hope to gradually adjust to sleeping around 2 AM, but it is indeed a bit difficult to change. This is my biggest challenge.
I have a tendency to gain weight easily, so even after many years of fasting, I still maintain a weight of around 70 kilograms. At my lightest, I was about 65 kilograms, and I don't think I've been lighter than that. This weight is down from over 80 kilograms. Friends who have seen me know that I've lost quite a noticeable amount of weight in the past three years. When I was in Shanghai, I maintained around 75 kilograms because I had a great meal.
After coming to Singapore, I've actually been eating a bit less for dinner, so I can maintain around 70 kilograms all year round. I haven't had a physical examination this year, so I don't know about my health status, but in my previous check-ups, all indicators were normal. Some years ago, I had mild fatty liver, but I should no longer have that.
Many friends are concerned about whether I will develop stones; I have never had them.
Many friends are also concerned about whether I have stomach pain; I almost never have.
Many friends are worried whether my nutrition can keep up, but at least the results of my past physical examinations have been satisfactory. In the last two years, my health has been fairly good; I've had a long-term cough, and occasionally I might have a fever or diarrhea because my stomach is very sensitive. Other than that, I'm okay.
Many friends are concerned whether I feel hungry; yes, and I often feel hungry for long periods.
Light fasting mainly leads to fat consumption due to hunger, so feeling hungry during fasting is very normal, and it is challenging to avoid hunger. I also feel it; for example, I am quite hungry right now, but the most intense hunger is not now but around 2 or 3 AM, since I usually eat around 6 PM. So, after four to five hours, I start to gradually feel hungry.
If I don’t eat anything, after about 8 hours, the feeling of hunger becomes very severe. I won't say that I am used to it, so I don't feel hungry. Although hunger can be gotten used to, it does not mean that it won't occur, and hunger is very hard to suppress. Sometimes when I get into a writing state, I do ignore hunger, but it still exists.
Although hunger is a negative state, I hardly ever feel dizzy or unable to concentrate because of it. I guess I wouldn't consider myself that hungry. I once went 36 hours without eating, and that was when I was really very hungry, but I still could work.
At least I feel that the hunger generated from eating one meal a day has a very limited impact on me personally; it does not interfere with my life or work. Friends who know me all know that whenever they see me, my mental state is good; this cannot be faked, so hunger, at least at this level, I am okay.
What else? Oh, yes, I drink alcohol—about once or twice a week, averaging three to five liang each time, and I hardly ever drink more than four liang. I hardly mix drinks, and I think what's impressive about me is that I can still go home and write after drinking those.
Actually, my habits are not healthy, especially sleeping too late and insufficient sleep time, which is very bad. I am gradually adjusting, but it is indeed very difficult, especially for going to bed early. I can fall asleep, but I always drag it until morning. I hope to adjust this year, and as for light fasting, I do recognize it because I am my best proof.
Oh, and one more thing, I take liver protection pills and fish oil every day. This mainly supplements my body.
Brother Kan @tktang88 also practices light fasting, only eating breakfast and dinner, sleeping very early—around 11 PM every night—and waking up at 7 AM. He does aerobic exercise every afternoon, which is very healthy. But I think friends in the crypto circle might find it difficult to achieve this.
