Integration in Africa has for many decades been hampered by various transport challenges, including road, rail, air or water. These difficulties have also inhibited trade, progress and people-to-people ties. Another hurdle to our integration in Africa has been the requirement for visas to travel from one country to another, erecting further walls to travel, commerce and opportunities. The good news is that this situation is changing for the better. Significant progress has made in the modernisation of road and rail infrastructure, and air connectivity is deepening at a progressive pace. In addition, the African Union has adopted a policy framework that promotes integration and intra-African trade, birthing the African Continental Free Trade Area and providing the removal of barriers. The free trade area agreement has been signed by 47 countries. In Kenya, we have led the way by waiving visa requirements for nearly all citizens of African countries, enabling travellers to enter our nation without paying fees or the requirement of visas.
