Minister Matthew Samuda confirmed that Jamaica remains under a Tropical Storm Watch, noting changes in the storm’s trajectory and strength. He emphasized that this is not a time for panic, but for preparation, and outlined the Government’s efforts to stay ahead of misinformation and ensure timely, accurate updates to the public. The Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change, working through the Meteorological Service, is coordinating closely with Minister McKenzie’s team, the National Disaster Risk Management Council, and the Prime Minister’s Office as part of an all-of-government response. Minister Samuda highlighted that the Met Service is now operating with its own Doppler radar, enhancing Jamaica’s capacity for real-time monitoring. Key agencies including NEPA and the Water Resources Authority are on alert, tracking river levels and early warning systems. The National Water Commission has also activated its emergency protocols, with special attention to maintaining water supply for hospitals and infirmaries during and after the storm. He assured citizens that the Government is fully mobilized, well-coordinated, and committed to keeping the public informed and protected as the situation develops.(Andrew Holness)
