I have shared the topic of children learning English with many friends. If you really plan to let your child study abroad, the earlier the better. At least from a language perspective, the younger the child, the stronger their ability to accept a foreign language, and the less resistance they will face. If I could choose, the best age range would be from 4 to 5 years old.
After elementary school, the fourth grade should be a turning point. The difficulty of learning a foreign language increases significantly after the fourth grade, especially since many foreign schools only have five years of elementary education. They might just get used to it for one year before entering middle school. Starting in sixth grade, the difficulty of textbooks increases a lot; even a science class makes my head ache just looking at it.
In my personal understanding, English, driving, and swimming should be three essential skills to master, especially English. If one can achieve a native-level proficiency, the employment opportunities expand beyond just the highly competitive domestic market. You also won't have to worry about being laid off after the age of 35. Unfortunately, recent trends in Mainland China's education regarding English, from demand to quality and even exams, have been declining.
For children, the world is vast, and only by mastering English can they truly go out and explore. Today, I attended a parent-teacher meeting for the chipmunk. I found out that the chipmunk's English level has surpassed mine by a large margin, which is unimaginable for me domestically. The teacher said the chipmunk now has more friends in class and their self-confidence has greatly improved, which makes me very happy.
